Tropical Plants – Cactus Flower With One Day to Live

Enjoy as you go! Rare exotic tropical plant collectors learn patience.  Some bromeliads will take 48 months to flower and then die without pupping.  The most beautiful ginger flowers will last a week.  Some of the canna flowers will provide you with two or three days of total amazement.  This cactus flower was alive for less than 24 hours.

Not aware of the urgency, but because I was completely taken by its beauty, size and structure, I took this first photograph at 3 AM .  As the days went by, I learned what was actually happening.  Here’s a  documentary of this enchanting flower, with a very short lifespan.
