James lost the lower part of his leg after talking to a rowdy guest at a birthday party. The guest, a former military man, returned to the party, placed a shotgun on Armstrong’s calf and fired. SHOT features 101 shooting survivors from across the USA. The participants are from all races, many ethnicities, and ages 8-80 from high and low profile shootings. The majority of portraits are taken at the location of the shootings. SHOT is not meant to be divisive; the project includes gun owners as well as an NRA member. Gun violence affects all of us.

Blues singer and activist Courtney was shot in the face by her boyfriend. He received four years for her attempted murder and seven years for firing at a police officer who had arrived on the scene. He is eligible for unconditional parole in 2019. Arcadia, California, 2010
