Everything from my childhood has disappeared. My childhood homes are gone, my schools torn down or abandoned, and my hometown in Iowa continues to spiral downwards as the economy changes hands.  In 2009 my grandparents home was the only thing that remained. It contained all of my family’s history and many memories for me. I decided to return and photograph their house before it too disappeared. Shortly after my grandmother had a small stroke and they sold the home to move in with other family members and eventually a nursing home. Richard passed away last April and it has only made these photos even more valuable to me.  These photos capture a place and a spirit of my family and my childhood.
