Business ownership gives people an opportunity to better their life. A person who owns their own business is mostly in control of their future. Even a very small business owner has independence that a highly paid employee can only dream about. The problem is that the tide is changing and the American economy is rapidly becoming controlled by large powerful companies. Further, the internet has turned the old methods of doing business upside down. Retail stores are getting hit hard. Since the great recession of 2008, the service industry is also feeling the heat because many customers are more interested in price instead of quality. Health insurance costs also continue to rise to levels that are unaffordable. Moving forward, business owners will continue to face a strong headwind and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence will not only eliminate a tremendous amount of jobs, but also destroy businesses in many sectors of the economy.
