In July 2009 my brother, Fernando, suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of a traffic accident. Sport was a fundamental part of his life. Since then he has undergone three operations, one of them as part of an experimental clinical trial with stem cells. He continues to live with intense pains. In 2015 his daughter was born.

"...his perseverance and determination to improve was always an example for us to follow."

As he was learning to deal with a new life, I felt I wanted to document his endeavor. I started to photograph him as a necessity to share those new steps and spend time together, perhaps as a way to cope with the pain too. I focused on his everyday life, the things that made him happy and helped him to move on. Despite of his physical pain, his perseverance and determination to improve was always an example for us to follow.
