Art Book Review | Oceanic Art | Ozeanische Kunst | Art Oceanien By Anthony JP Meyer | Photographs By Olaf Wipperfurth

The three areas covered are: Melanesia, Polynesia, and Micronesia.  If you are an artist, traveler, art collector, or art book collector, then this gigantic, gorgeous book is an excellent addition to your library.  Both hands are needed to lift the hardcover book because it is 9 Lbs. and 640 pages. Dimensions: 11.2 x 2.5 x 13.2 inches!

Oceanic Art is written in English, German, and French. There are 100’s of color photographs of art. Also, detailed information (maps included) discussing the different regions. Further, a special treat as stated on the front inside fold-over cover : “Most of the works of art illustrated in this volume are stored deep in the reserves of museums or held in private collections not accessible to the public.”

Each art piece is individually numbered, including a color photograph and a description. Many of the art descriptions have meticulous information on how the item is used, as well as history, and collection information. I collect masks from around the world. This book also includes masks from the Oceania region.  Hermit Poet’s rating: 10 out of 10
