We Cut Heads was a self-assigned photo project that focused on a local barbershop in Altadena, CA. I was fascinated by the dynamics of a black-owned barbershop. Along with its history of being a social hub, it is also a rare space with men of color, regardless of age, to gather together. There is a level of intimacy that can exists in such a communal space, which includes one man surrendering himself to the control of another. One can witness professionalism and artistry, as well as a vulnerability that is rarely exposed elsewhere.
