Mystical Realist

The Classic Introduction To Dogen’s Life And Teaching

By: Hee-Jin Kim

(Excerpt)

” Loving speech means that as you meet sentient beings, you first arouse the sense of compassion in your mind and treat them with considerate, affectionate words.”

(page 209)

Hermit Poet’s Comments: Respecting other people and treating and talking to them kindly will not only create a peaceful existence for you, but also make personal, professional, and overall interactions with others run smoother. Further, when having a problem with something, it is always best to keep calm even if the other person is upset, angry, rude, etc. Many times the other person will run out of steam and then help you or be more open to your position.
