Frogs and toads are a great to have walking and jumping around in a tropical garden. I like the sounds that toads make after a hard rain. I have an abundance of frogs and toads along with other creatures such as birds, squirrels, butterflies, snails, raccoons, opossums, rabbits, lizards, snakes, rats, mice, iguanas, etc, that all live peacefully in my tropical garden.
Here is a YouTube link so that you can listen to mating calls of toads.
Without further delay, now on to the book review. 300 Frogs is a small very thick heavy book and is a visual reference guide to frogs and toads from around the world. The book is packed with 300 species and subspecies. The contents includes: an introduction that covers frog diversity, relationships, frog habitats, frog and toad forms, food and feeding, reproduction and life cycles, and frog and toad survival.
After the introduction, comes the juicy part, which is the remainder of the book that includes 100’s of pages of information on each amphibian. There are color photos, a paragraph or two or three of information on the individual frog or toad type, and a side box that includes: common name, scientific name, family, size, key features, habits, breeding, diet, distribution, status, and similar species.
Bottom line, if you collect nature books or have an interest in frogs and toads then this book is for you.
