As a child, have you ever dreamed that you were underwater? You panic that you can’t breathe, but when you try and there is a moment of pure liberation when you draw in a long, deep breath. What do these dreams represent in the human psyche? Are we dreaming of our deaths? In the moment when we cross over, perhaps there will be no fear but only recognition and wonder?
In this series of photographs, the river holds something dark but beautiful; It is both alluringly sensual and earthy. It calls to me to return to the source somehow, to let go and dive into its depths and breathe. I wanted these images to explore our understanding of the places beyond the perimeters of our knowledge, the unknown frontiers of ourselves.
