NO MIDDLEMAN ART GALLERY | FEATHERFOLIO

Featherfolio By Chris Maynard
Chris developed a method of backing feathers with pressure, glues, and papers so the feathers can be carved and still retain their stability. What the viewer sees is the natural feather. He uses naturally shed feathers which mean that a bird that donated a feather is likely still alive. They are pinned above the white background about 1/2 inch (1cm) so shadows become prominent in the final works.
These legally and ethically obtained feathers are mounted in shadowboxes to hang on the walls. Since feathers are universal symbols of flight, transformation, achievement, and hope, Maynard’s art speaks to many people who long for these qualities as well as people who revere birds.
