With over a quarter of its population already over 65 years old and the country facing historically low birth rates, Japan is aging at an unprecedented rate. The economic and social issues this brings, it’s also concerning for cultural reasons – as more people with valuable experience and skills pass away there are fewer young people to whom that knowledge can be passed.
This ongoing photography project focuses on the people and places at the front line of Japan’s aging problem.
