Written by Kevin Patrick McCann
Downstairs it’s still early
As he sets about making tea
And soon he will leave
A note, unsigned, explaining,
Then let himself out quietly.
Upstairs,
In the front bedroom,
Curtains are pulled shut
But don’t quite
Meet,
Fresh sunlight
Edges
A dressing table,
One drawer, half
Open,
Slides over
Clothes,
Rumpled back sheets,
Bruised ankles,
Bare feet,
Limbs rearranged
And already stiffening.
