Written by Laura Berry
We´ve all done it,
something good
comes our way
and rather
than shout Hooray!
we say Oh No!
Go away!
Like we like
the misery
of the moment.
We like the storm cloud
above our heads.
We prefer the dread.
The sun is shining
yet we stay in bed.
Maybe we don´t like
going up and down,
side to side,
round and round.
Sad, happy, afraid,
twenty times
a day…
No, lets just
stay in one.
Block out the sun,
for it will rain
again tomorrow.
So might as well
stay in the sorrow
and make lemons
from lemonade.

I’ve certainly had moments where it felt risky or scary to allow myself to feel the full impact of joy. It feels far too vulnerable.
