Written by Laura Berry
The smell of hot, sticky, tarmac roads
Plastic umbrellas against the rain
Puddles muddy and irresistible
Toast by the coal lit fire
Wiggling toes in front of the flames
Tents made from cushions and throws
Secret places to play
Seeking fossils in the soil
Dirty knees and grazes
Rolling down the mowed hills
Do you like butter?
Hold a buttercup to your chin
Daisy chains and cut grass sculptures
Carpet burns and plastic rings
Rubbing balloons on your head
Static hair was funny
Drawing blobs with stick legs
Artist in the making
Scratching bow on violin strings
Frustration on the brow
Fluffy pyjamas and teddy bears
Scared of the dark
Exhausted from exploring
Time to go to sleep

Thank you!
Beautiful and nostalgic. Right up my alley!
Thank you Carolynn, am glad it transported you there for a moment. 🙂
This was a lovely piece of writing, it took me right back to when I was a kid. Great descriptions. ❌❤❌
