Homelessness has risen amongst those who have worked all of their lives.
For they say the golden years are grand.
When some have chosen between their heart medication or their heat.
For they say the golden years are grand.
When some have no choice but to sell all of their priceless family artifacts just to survive.
For they say the golden years are grand.
When they are forced to move from the place they called home.
Only to live in cars and trucks with their bull dog in the front seat.
Hoping to find another permanent shelter.
For they say the golden years are grand.
In a country where wealth is predominantly obscene.
And yet disparity is more predominant for many.
For the golden years are not so grand.

So true
And because, we put all our money in those 401ks, paid a ton into, social security, that was used to, keep those who had already, retired to have enough, the current generation of working people, when they file for retirement, what we are paying into the accounts will be used to, keep them alive, and, as the working files for retirement later, it’s the next generation that is working, paying for their, retirement, and, we will be looking at, the younger generations, deeper in debt than the previous, because as life lengthens, we are less than likely to age healthily.
Totally agree, we were lulled into a false sense of security with managed retirement funds.
I can only hope with the Montana newspaper that printed the article. Sparked the need to possibly help this man out.
You’re welcome.
Depiction of desperation late in life, a sad story.
Powerful! Thank you for sharing your voice Mary Anne.
Retirement, would be, difficult, especially now, as those 401ks, social security go, bust, and, because we didn’t have the senses, to, save up for later, got so used to, live in the now, spending the dollars and cents as we made them, that, is why, we ran out of the money we need, to keep our selves well, for old age, and, inflation still, doesn’t help either!
