This project “Vive Vide” is the result of several years photographing the empty and deserted streets and places of the Deux-Sèvres region of France.
The Deux-Sèvres is one of the least populated areas of France. It is possible to pass through several small villages without seeing a single soul.
‘Vive Vide’ is a play on words – ‘vive’ usually means ‘long live’ but can also mean ‘lively’ and ‘vide’ can mean both ’empty’ or ’emptiness’.
Rather than getting up close and documenting the lives of people in these places, I want the viewer to imagine lives lived behind the closed doors and empty streets.
