“I often wonder if
people want
what they give
I want to be heard
So I listen
I don’t long for advice
Or constant reminders
Of truths
I didn’t forget
I don’t long for
Watered down
Overused quotes
That keep me complacent
In my human experience
Or give me permission
To bypass my reality
With illusion
I want to be absorbed
Like the earth
Absorbs the rain
I want to penetrate
the surface of you
and reach your roots
Listen
Can you sit with the ocean
without preaching to her
what you think
she needs to hear
Can you sit with me
in the eye of the storm
without
trying to calm
or make better
Can you ride it out
Listen
A dam manipulates
the primal flow
of rivers
diverting and restructuring
their natural course
The course of creator
I don’t long to be
dammed
diverted
hindered
or restructured
I long to be absorbed
like the earth
absorbs the rain”
