Written by Whitney Aumack
I took a second look
Into the night
From my window
All I make out is an ethereal glow from a low moon
On a trellis of vines
Covered in dew
Mocking me
Because they grow
Fast and fierce
With little to no attention
While I’m hanging in suspension
Rocking
In a corner of my mind
Tracing dotted lines
With a red pen
In a children’s book
When did I begin to envy ivy?
I ricochet off every emotion inside of me
Lie with me
Lie to me
Tell me that
The flowers in my garden are fragrant
Tell me that
My closets are vacant
The monsters have all died
The ghosts found peace
Half past midnight
The fireplace offers both warmth and light
Although, in this dire state, I feel neither
