This series of photographs is about a particular way of American life that often gets overlooked in the movies and TV and tourist destinations. It is about small towns with no big attractions or tourism, but communities of people living their lives more isolated from the rest of the country. Communities that depend on the people that make them up more than they depend on the rest of the country. These are communities that are not marked on the maps or written about in the stories or tourism guides. They are lives that exist under the American map.
These images tell their stories in the land and homes they create around them. They are full of small things, and small moments of lives that exist in small communities all over America.
