Description of gardener means, that: “A gardener is any person involved in gardening, arguably the oldest occupation, from the hobbyist in a residential garden, the homeowner supplementing the family food with a small vegetable garden or orchard, to an employee in a plant nursery or the head gardener in a large estate.” The project Gardeners was realized in 2016. After moving to Germany, I was fascinated by local gardens and front yards. In Slovakia, gardens are mainly intended for growing vegetables and plants. Naturally, every house has got some small front yard with flowers, small trees or bushes. I saw many lush plants, and front yards have many cropped bushes into some balls or other shapes in cities where I was established. Stuff like plastic animals, dwarfs and cupids of stone which many people use for their nicer garden, looks many times kitschy and funny. Combining elements of typological photography of August Sander, typical for German photography school, and my sense of humor was developed into these portraits of German gardeners.
