War Towers is a project based on a territorial research on the area of Cavallino Treporti (Venice, Italy) a rich land full of amazing nature, old typical architecture and traditional folk customs.
I decided to work on the aspect that hit me the most: the exterior face of these towers remained as a strong memory of the past in the landscape of Cavallino.
These military towers were built in World War I to keep the coast safe along with some batteries of artillery but they weren’t used for this purpose at all because enemies never arrived so close. Some of them are now empty but the majority has been used as civil houses by families and local farmers.
