Written by Darrell Smith
I noticed him while riding in a car. There was a light rain making noises on the windshield. Mesmerized by the lull of the car in a beautiful zone.
He walked toward his mailbox bent over with a steady gait. A rural, Cajun man, with grit in his marrow. A mind practicing simplexity.
Mail anticipation similar to my inboxes. A chasm of communication styles. I remember the clarity of mind with snail mail. Checked once a day, freed until tomorrow.
Face down he knows the soil under his feet. A connection to land magnetically embracing him.
