Chris Palmer

Images & Text By Chris Palmer

These pictures were taken through greenhouse glass, details that perhaps most people might pass by and ignore? However, when you stop and look ‘into’ these images perhaps you, like me, can see a certain beauty in the textures and subtle details that I have captured. I often find that as I look through the camera my imagination is triggered, here perceiving these plants as being trapped. Perhaps they are trying to escape?

There is also a painterly abstraction produced by the water droplets, condensation, snail trails, and growth upon the glass. It’s interesting to see the way the more distant vegetation fades into the background in a mysterious way.

This interaction with a subject is fundamental to the way I work. If I don’t connect with it then my response is invariably shallow, and lacks meaning. My intent is to always do the subject justice, and convey to the viewer some of the emotion and empathy that I feel when I am photographing. Whether it be details through glass, or any other landscape subject, it is my own personal vision that I am trying to communicate.
“Photography can be a mirror and reflect life as it is, but I also think it is possible to walk, like Alice, through the looking glass and find another world with the camera.” Tony Ray Jones 1941-72

Presents

Photography & Philosophy

The freezing of a moment is a magical event.  Images can make us feel love, rage and every sensation in between.

Photographers, whether partial or impartial to their subject matter, consume a massive amount of insight.  Their participation cannot be substituted nor replicated. The moment is gone! The experiences will live in their minds and those encounters are immortalized in their photographs.

Edge of Humanity Magazine’s ‘Photography & Philosophy’ series will bring together the art and the mind of these fantastic creators.

If you would like to participate, please contact the editor jo@edgeofhumanity.com for more details.
