This collection of photographs tells a story of resilience, sacrifice, and deep love for one’s own country and community  struggling with the realities of war. The peaceful, idyllic life in the Hutsul villages is suddenly destroyed by the brutal reality of war. People like Ivan, Yuri, and Volodymyr left their homes to defend a future they may never see. In quiet homes, families left behind fight their own battle every day, carrying the weight of uncertainty and separation.

The effects of war extend beyond the battlefield.

Women like Anna and Julia are the invisible heroes of this conflict. By sharing stories of how they manage their households alone or join the fight after personal loss, they reveal a whole spectrum of unspoken emotions and the silent strength of women’s roles in this community.

The experiences of 92-year-old Anna, stretching back to World War II, act as a living bridge between the past and present. They remind us of the cyclical nature of history and how much a person can endure.
