For several years, I documented the events of the Del Norte County Fair in the rural small-town of Crescent City, California. These images document a diverse community, coming together to celebrate together their hobbies and passions, their shared sense of history, and their compassion and affection for one another. It’s a time when they lift their eyes beyond their everyday lives, to watch each other collaborate and compete with the hopes of becoming local celebrities, even if only temporarily.
Artist’s Statement: John Tynes is a writer, photographer, physician, and restless traveler, currently based in Denver, Colorado. He is frequently on the roads of America, often with his Airstream trailer behind him, seeking the images and stories that inspire us all.
