An eagle’s eye sees far beyond
our limited range,
a dog smells things
we don’t even notice,
an owl detects rustling prey
at distances unheard by us,
a gentle, floating manatee’s
sense of touch easily outreaches our own
even a mud-bogged catfish has a
better sense of taste than we.
What, then, do we not see,
smell, hear, touch, and taste
in the world around us?
What wonders lie beyond
our ability to sense them,
what sights, odors, sounds,
feelings, and flavors do we
not detect around and beyond us,
unrevealed to our narrow, finite selves?
