Written by Melissa Lemay
You itch me like a bee sting
Caught between my toes
Small enough so no one sees you
Poison spreads the itch
To step on my swollen toe
Feels like pressing on a blister
You hid in the tall grass
With no intention to sting
But then it happened
One day while you buzzed about
You were underfoot
What else were you to do?
Oh, it stung and I barely flinched
I didn’t wince
What was I to do?
I walk with swollen toe
Sometimes I scratch
Itches like you
It rubs my skin raw
I medicate between my toes
I am stoic
I barely make a sound
If anyone asks me
I say I stepped on you

This poem is really clever, I love the subtle comparison between bee and person.
