Written by Brenda Mox
In this parlor game of blame,
The pawn who tells the truth
With a gift of sounding impartial
Lifted her mournful gaze
Expecting no help from above.
Without ears to hear her language
she briefly lost herself in grief.
But she would not hide in a burrow
puffing like a wearied dog
at the end of a chase.
Nor would she sputter out
like a spent fire,
afraid to show her face.
The pawn, having grown
many shades darker with anger,
had an urge to parade the ignorance
of the self-professed talking heads
who, philosophically are as evanescent
as a whispering wind.
She reared like a dagger
drawn to strike
with truth
at their guileless capacity
to live undisturbed by actual evidence
of important subjects
lied about and overlooked.
