“What would I be without my things?” is about tangibility, who we are, and what we choose. The constant search for the right shade of red, the person who sounds like that one song, and the culture that’s cooler than this. This exhibition consists of four film photographs and four oil paintings: With direct reference to their favorite movie, shoes, and wired headphones, Abigail and Emily Doyle aim to capture their things in a multitude of senses. Each piece demonstrates the idea of wanting and having, such as the non-tangible conversations heard through podcasts we enjoy, even when vapid and frivolous. Or the clothes we wear daily and cherish as art pieces. Even the ideals we dream of, the futures we’ll have. Without these simple things, we’d be completely lost. When we don’t believe in a god, we turn to objects, desires, and our personas. Asking the question, what would we be without our things?

Emily and Abigail Doyle are Canadian twin artists whose work intertwines through a deep exploration of identity, connection, and emotional complexity. Emily, a photographer working with both film and digital mediums, frequently features Abigail as her muse. Her visual narratives translate personal experiences and introspections into compelling imagery. Abigail, an oil painter, infuses her work with strong aesthetic values and gothic beliefs, vividly reflecting these themes in her paintings. Together, their art has been showcased at the Kariton Art Gallery and Modern Mix Art Gallery. As they continue to expand their audience, they remain committed to their unique and creative interests.

The last paragraph “when we don’t believe in god…” So succinct!
