having a pen name can be similar to
suffering from multiple personalities disorder.
I’m trying to keep account of who’s writing
every line but it all intermingles; I’ll be drunk and
writing a poem and my alter ego will wake
up, forcing my music tastes to change, my writing
voice to dissipate. my alter ego will demand new
storylines, will inject strange themes into the
lines written with bourbon and blood.
it works the other way, too. my alter ego having taken
completely over, requesting dumb party music and
writing whatever the fuck my alter ego
writes (sadly, it’s only my alter ego that has made money out of writing)
and my real self will knock on the door of
the whirling brain. I’ll demand rock music, some classic rock from
the 70s, psychedelic trip music from the 60s, and the alter
ego will give up and surrender the keyboard to fingers
that’ve been doing the dance for far too long.
two people living into one worn-out body (perhaps, my
alter ego does exist, in my inflated liver) and it’s
impossible to let them coexist.
I use bourbon, and the occasional fix of speed, to keep
my sanity but oftentimes it becomes hard to
keep track of who’s in charge at any given moment.
