Written by Aaron Hodge
“Familial love has to be earned.”
In his household, it was a phrase never to be said aloud
But was understood to be non-negotiable.
So, the young, attention-starved boy
Had to fuel himself with the “intimacy” he received from strangers.
…
But I’m aware now.
You were also a malnourished child
Starving for the same unconditional love I hungered for.
Sympathy is granted your way,
But it can never negate the pain you’ve inflicted.
…
The War is Over.
The generational curse has been extinguished,
But I’ll ignite a new, refined flame for our bloodline.
My skin has toughened,
But the battle scars will always remain.
