Feeling like a straw in the wind,
dropping into a flame of darkness,
he drank the frightening liquors of memory.
The engineer of his own wrecked life,
he felt smashed and badly reassembled.
–
Way back in his life that had once been,
two very separate beings
walked along opposite horizons.
He had grown up
with a heart hungry for love.
She wanted only the animal pleasures of life.
Like a swimmer in a dark sea
treading unstable water,
their nocturnal combats left him
bruised at the bottom of his soul.
She belonged to a bird’s world,
somewhere outside of it all. She flew away.
–
It was then all his dreams turned to dust.
His life shifted at its center
as he sat like a shadow,
whittled down by age,
inside a coma of silence.
Settling into the darkness of obscurity,
he sat by his window
wistfully watching the flight
of little birds from the depths of his disintegration.
