This series explores the renaissance of cowboy hats, guns and attitude in the occasionally trippy outskirts of urban realities in the US, permeating all ethnicities, genders and ages, for the better or worse.
Gerald Gutschmidt Born in East Germany (former GDR). Trained in and worked as an Industrial Designer, VFX Artist/Lighting Supervisor, Writer/Director and Street Photographer. Living in San Francisco. Artist Statement: I am a Street Photographer, taking my camera to the streets is my dialogue with humanity without having to say a word. From the start at the onset of the pandemic it was my goal to capture the human spirit, behavior, emotion and ingenuity through candid photos, showing complete strangers unposed in their everyday life. What draws me into it the most is life unfolding around me relentlessly and unexpectedly. Without allowing me to change its course, I become witness and preserver of its endless twists. On the surface my street photography by nature or process may appear as a selfish game, yet I strongly believe it serves the community as its mirror and archive. It manifests in the most direct way the trail that humanity leaves behind.
