Others said I was human, I took their word

But they’re not the same as me, you see?

They’ve beaten me down, to break me,

To force my voice silent, “tread lightly, braindead.”

When their world’s darkness devoured me whole,

That’s when I knew.

These weren’t humans and neither was I,

Ensnared in spidery silk spun, suspended ready to die.

An iron-cast heart, tempered by the streets,

All hope marooned,

Absent of fight.

Ensnared in a scorn-filled cocoon,

Devoid of light.

Shrunken into myself,

I stayed,

I explored,

I mapped

Every seam of this cobwebbed tomb in the underworld,

Of what I thought, robbed me of my destiny.

Darkness spreading,

Immense dreading,

Vexatiously degraded.

Every smack, kick, and punch

Fractured the impenetrable shell.

My soul’s dull ember shone,

Piercing the dark, an illuminating aura dazed

Surrounding all in a dimly lit haze.

Shadows scurried with the breeze,

Nosy whispers traveled by, “who and what is she?”

My spirit condensed within the charcoal womb,

Pressure built,

Fissures split,

A presence now a radiant flame,

Cannoning from the Delphinus abyss,

Hurled with a wobble

Then a transitional glide

Across the sky.

Flares of hope, my wings

Enveloped the world, they flew

Surprisingly blue.

The wreckage of human life, I sift through,

Ever searching for the ones with wings but never knew.

Those void of sight, identity slashed by knife,

Long been forgotten, buried in chaotic strife.

I hear them whisper my name,

Trapped in their ashes,

A swift shift

And downward dive

To cast a glow below.

Endless soaring,

Ever-guiding,

Protective presence

For wandering spirits stuck

In places unknown.

Incarnate Phosphorogen,

Swallow-tailed myth,

To ignite their sparks,

To restart their hearts,

To remind them of their origin.

Glorious illumination all around,

Phoenixes rising from below the ground,

With tales of survival, found.
