In this work, we have chosen to confront our two visions of one theme: “Man in the city”: One, nocturnal, is inspired by the atmospheres of American film noirs of the 40s, or the films of René Clair and Marcel Carné. The other, diurnal, is inspired by the humanist photography of Robert or Henri Cartier-Bresson and Italian neo-realism.

But in the end, the choice of images is made with a common objective in mind: to tell the story of everyday urban life in our own way, and to create an emotional response.

To serve our purpose, B&W was chosen for the distance and timelessness it confers to the subjects. All shots are taken in digital monochrome, or sometimes on film”.

«Serge and Michel Kliaving’s career began with photojournalism work for the "Office Franco-Allemand de la Jeunesse» about Kreuzberg, a hot spot of Berlin in the 1980's. Since then, their work has been featured in different art fairs and festivals, galleries, and publications. They state that their chief interest is "to mix photography exhibitions and unconventional spaces.»
