A Song/ Poem By Sara Grimes
The piano is my friend
Familiar with the keys
I can play any song by ear
I do what I please
Don’t come begging me for answers
When you’ve left me on a limb
Signed me up for quite a fright
You pay fealty to him
I’ll never hit a home run
But babe I could care less
I’m over here stacking records
How many? Give me your best guess
When things get fiery
And the jackals sound
Tell me truly
Will you be around
My heart is air tight
I suffocate
But to me
It’s all dirt on home plate
When tigers ravage
What love we had left
WiIl you be so savage
As to wield my heart bereft
Of any feeling
You took it all in stride
Now my wounds congeal
I decompose on the inside
