Written by Stephan van der Merwe
There’s the question
that the road still silently flops
in front of my falling feet
how far can I follow
before the cadence breaks – the need
to earn and live and learn could stop
the spurs of silent speed?
How far before the limits of bone
and breath would breach
the call of lake or long white beach
How far before the blend of loneliness
and pain will wrestle down
even this defiant metronome.
