Written by AV Raj
I look out from my balcony and see
Waves of mountains rolling away,
Meeting the misty sky where the gods hold sway.
Below, a tapestry of lives—
Tourists in twos, threes, fives:
Bengalis, Gujaratis, North Indians, South Indians,
Foreigners, wanderers all,
Sauntering up the Mall.
Marauding monkeys descend on the larch
Like a mini tsunami—
Branches and leaves furiously shaking,
Pleading, “Please spare me!”
Busy sparrows noisily forage
For food to suit their fleeting taste,
Oblivious to all else in the world.
A lonely bulbul on the deodar,
Hidden in its fold,
Breaks out in a verse of melody—
And I wish I could be as carefree.
