Written by Brenda Mox
Feeling on edge
from always assuming the worst,
worry wrapped around him
like a sodden cloak.
Nursing a fatal sense of worthlessness,
he felt a prisoner inside his own body.
Unnerved by a stranger’s stare,
his voice felt trapped at the back of his throat
as an ominous prickle ran down his spine.
On the verge of bursting out of his skin,
he choked back a scream.
With blood roaring in his ears,
he walked on in shadow,
trying to make sense of the fragments of his life.
Feeling severed from the world,
fear undermines all sense of logic.
How close one stands to the abyss
when shackled in such tormenting darkness.
Falling over the unguarded edge
into a sea of nothingness,
the young tragedy magnet
cried without making a sound.
