The Matter Vispa originates in the glaciers above Zermatt, fed by meltwater from the Gorner and Findel systems. What moves through these images is not simply a river but ice in transition, solid form dissolving into force. The series tracks that shift, not as metaphor, but as fact. Water at this scale carries both energy and record, the accumulated pressure of elevation, season, and slow structural loss. These are photographs of a process already underway, made at a moment when the source itself is receding.

 

 

 

Nicholas Duers is a New York-based commercial photographer and fine artist whose work spans still life, architecture, and remote landscape. His images are defined by precision and restraint, using light and framing to distill complex forms into composed, often abstract visual studies. He examines materiality and spatial perception across both the controlled environment of the studio and the open, variable conditions of the field, where he photographs Arctic ice and glacial formations as transient structures shaped by environmental change. 

His commercial work includes commissions for Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, Harry Winston, David Yurman, Netflix, and Adidas/Y3, among others, and has been recognized by the Art Director’s Club, Lurzers Archive, Graphis, American Photography, and Int’l Photo Awards. He holds a degree in Advertising Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology and operates out of his studio in Midtown Manhattan.
