Thrifted Haul is a visual exploration of objects that have outlived their original purpose. Sourced from thrift stores and flea markets, each element carries traces of an unknown past. Reimagined through photography, these forgotten materials become part of new narratives where form, color, and light transform the ordinary into something quietly mysterious.

Ellis van der Stoep (The Netherlands, 1972) is a self-taught photographer whose lifelong fascination with photography has remained a constant throughout the many chapters of her life. After working in a variety of professions, she now dedicates herself to developing her artistic practice, using photography as a way to explore both the visible and the unseen.

Guided by a fascination with form, color, and light, Ellis creates images that often begin as intuitive visual compositions. During the creative process, these photographs gradually reveal unexpected layers of meaning, allowing the work to evolve beyond its original intention. By giving her images open-ended titles, she invites viewers to bring their own memories, emotions, and interpretations.

A distinctive aspect of her practice is the use of vintage and second-hand materials. Clothing, fabrics, found objects, and antique frames—all carrying traces of previous lives—are carefully recontextualized. Removed from their original purpose, these familiar objects become quiet protagonists, creating an atmosphere of mystery, tension, and quiet beauty.

Her work has been exhibited at Café LaBru in Rotterdam and Neck of the Woods in Vlaardingen, and has been featured in Docu Magazine. Through her photography, Ellis invites viewers to slow down, look beyond the surface, and discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.
