Cities are often defined by movement, noise, and constant change. In this series, I chose the opposite approach. Through long exposure and black-and-white photography, urban spaces and architectural forms are reduced to their essential elements. Separated from their everyday context, architecture becomes less about location and more about shape, light, and space.

Although photographed in different cities, these images are connected by a shared visual language of geometry, structure, and quietness. Rather than documenting specific places, the series explores how reduction transforms the urban environment into timeless compositions, where form, light, and space become the defining subjects.

Artist Statement

Photography is my way of exploring the relationship between space, structure, and time. Through reduction and long exposure, I transform urban and natural environments into minimalist compositions where form, light, and atmosphere take precedence over distraction.

Rather than documenting places as they appear, I seek to reveal their underlying structure and quiet presence. By simplifying the visual environment, I aim to create timeless images that invite viewers to slow down, observe, and discover the beauty that emerges when complexity is reduced to its essence.

Bio

Sonia Aumiller is a French-German fine art photographer based in Munich. Her work explores the relationship between space, structure, and time through minimalist photography and long exposure. Influenced by her background in design and fashion, she creates reduced compositions that reveal the quiet beauty of urban and natural environments.
