In “Imaginary Bestiary”, the animal is no longer in its natural habitat. It poses, alone, facing a painted backdrop, a ruin, a reconstructed jungle. Between document and fiction, these portraits question our relationship with the living: what we displace, what we confine, what we watch disappear. Each image is a suspended habitat, a ghost territory. The light and pictorial texture invite us to pause, to witness the dignity that remains when a being is torn from its world.
Artist Statement Forty years of photography, twenty-two series. The lingering no man’s land. From the greenhouse to the zone: I have built a world. Neither document nor fiction: a grammar between the egg and agony. Photography becomes cloth, imprint, tapestry; haunted by time. I sometimes accompany my images with poetic text. I also create videos. I make my images without the intervention of AI. Biography Gilles Desrozier lives and works in Paris. He builds his allegories using methods related to engraving. He is interested in animism, ancient customs, and questions the origins of the world. His finished work always resembles the description of a dream, the revelation of a state of being. Gilles Desrozier is planning a trip to Louisiana to work on the bayou, voodoo, Mound Bayou, and Native Americans.
