Les murs ont bien des oreilles

Volatilisation

My surrealist photographic work offers a shifted perspective on everyday life and the ways in which we inhabit the world around us. I am drawn to ordinary objects, familiar gestures and commonplace situations, which I divert from their usual context in order to give them another logic — sometimes absurd, sometimes poetic, and sometimes unsettling.

My images emerge from improbable encounters between elements that have no apparent reason to belong together. By bringing them into unexpected relationships, I seek to create a new reading, an apparent logic that exists only within the image. Humour plays an important role in this process, often intertwined with dreamlike imagery, allegory and a sense of absurdity that can occasionally reveal something more disturbing beneath the surface.

Manipulation génétique

Je vous ai à l’oeil !

Working predominantly in black and white reinforces this displacement of reality. By removing colour, I am less interested in reproducing the world than in constructing a mental space — deliberately stripped down — where objects can change their roles and familiar certainties can become uncertain.

My approach is rooted in the surrealist tradition, with influences ranging from the experiments of Man Ray to the distinctive visual universe of Chema Madoz, as well as a French tradition of absurdity and wordplay embodied by figures such as Pierre Desproges and Raymond Devos. These influences come together in a photographic practice whose primary aim is to disrupt perception: to make the viewer smile, create a moment of doubt, or simply encourage them to look at something familiar differently.

Le crayon de la censure

Qui de l’oeuf ou de l’ampoule

Born in 1978 in the Jura region of France, Jérôme Chanussot has been developing a personal photographic practice for several years under the name Electronlibre photographies. A photographer and author alongside his professional work in digital printing, he devotes part of his time to a creative and surrealist approach to photography, predominantly in black and white.

His work has been presented at the International Festival of Surrealist and Creative Photography in Fréjus in 2025 and has been published several times in PHOTO magazine. In 2026, one of his photographs received an Honorable Mention at the MonoVisions Photography Awards, while another was selected as a Nominee at the Fine Art Photography Awards.

From October 2, 2026, his work will also be exhibited at the Musée des Maisons Comtoises in the Doubs region of France, as part of the Besançon Photography Festival.

Although photography is not currently his primary professional activity, it remains an essential space for creativity and freedom, one he would like to devote more time to in the future.
