The series brings together historic architecture, industrial heritage, urban spaces and night landscapes. Many of the images were made in and around Almadén, a former mining town in central Spain, where stone, metal and light carry the weight of the past. The selection also includes photographs from Madrid and Sète, France. I am interested in the atmosphere of these places: what remains when the crowds have gone, and how light changes their meaning.

Felipe Martín-Serrano Ortiz is a Spanish photographer and Capture One Certified Editor based in Almadén, Spain. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, a background that informs his attentive, methodical approach to image-making.

His work is shaped by an interest in light, atmosphere and the stories held by a place. He photographs landscapes, historic architecture, urban spaces and night scenes, looking for the point where structure and emotion meet. In 2026, his work received a European Photography Award in the Architecture category.

Felipe has edited more than 5,000 images, working closely with exposure, colour and composition rather than relying on automated filters. He is also a historical novelist, and the research behind his writing has reinforced a principle that runs through his photography: whether in a long narrative or a single frame, what matters is creating an image that invites the viewer to stay.

His photographs seek not only to show a location, but to retain its atmosphere: the silence of an old mining site, a square after dark, or a building held beneath the night sky.
