The Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Valmagne in southern France is a remarkable example of preserved medieval architecture. Romanesque elements and Gothic structures coexist within the abbey, while stone, light and vegetation create a quiet dialogue between architecture and nature.
My photographic series explores the abbey not simply as a historical monument, but as a spatial experience. Through carefully composed views, architectural details and moments of light, I seek to reveal the character and atmosphere of a place shaped by centuries of permanence.

Artist statement: As an architectural photographer and architect, I am interested in the relationship between space, construction, material and light. My photography is a way of looking closely at architecture – not only at its visible form, but at the atmosphere and character that emerge through the interaction of its individual elements. At Valmagne, I found a remarkable balance between architectural order and the organic presence of nature. Gothic vaults, Romanesque elements, stone surfaces and climbing vines form layers that seem to exist beyond a specific moment in time. Photography allows me to isolate these relationships and to make them perceptible. A fragment of a vault, a passage of light, a shadow or a glimpse through an opening can reveal the character of an entire space. The photographs are therefore not intended as a purely documentary record of the abbey. They are an attempt to translate its atmosphere into images – to capture the quiet presence of architecture and the dialogue between time and permanence.
