Kip Harris’s Built Environment examines architectural spaces from the perspective of the people who use them rather than venerating the buildings themselves. A practicing architect for over 30 years and primarily a street photographer, Harris contrasts architectural photography produced to promote architects’ visions with the lived experience of buildings. His work considers how use, context, character, light, smell, and the way a space is regarded shape our understanding of architecture, emphasizing that visiting a building in person provides something that photography, rendering, or design alone cannot replace.
