In Absence, Annemarie Deckers reflects on the kitchen as both a place of warmth and a symbol of self-imposed and socially shaped confinement. Triggered by working from home, motherhood, relocation, and a failing relationship, the project examines feelings of emptiness, longing, loneliness, and doubt. The images emerge from a process of questioning identity, personal decisions, and changing perspectives in a world in upheaval. The work explores the tension between external expectations and inner transformation, focusing on the search for voice, reinvention, and the redefinition of aspirations and self.
