Somewhere in Russia A Reportage of Daily Life by Antonella Monzoni documents life in the isolated village of Pervomaiscki in the Vologda region of northwest Russia. The project follows her 2005 visit to the community where Maria and her daughter Tania illustrate the hardships of rural living marked by distance, lack of services, and seasonal unemployment. Monzoni, an Edge of Humanity Magazine contributor, portrays a population made up largely of elderly lumberjacks who survive through long winters, poverty, and dependence on vodka while maintaining dignity and hospitality.
